Kacy and mom took one final girls only (well, at least 2 girls...we should find out tomorrow if future road trips are 3 girls or 2 girls and a boy) road trip, to Connecticut, Wednesday night. The weekend was programmed to be a full one! However...mother nature had other plans. We began our stay at Missy's house.
Kacy made good use of the Play Doh set that Missy bought her.
Friday's playdate with Reilly was cancelled due to poor Ms. Reilly not feeling well. Down goes Plan #1.
Ready for dinner. It takes a lot of Missy's chicken cutlets, and Colony pizza, to feed almost 20 college-age boys the night before they head to Jamaica for spring break. Missy's sons Vinnie and Sam brought home 3 carloads of fraternity brothers from Colgate on Friday night to sleepover before leaving the next morning from JFK.
Kacy was exhausted. And this was just night 3.
Saturday, we had Julianna Porco's first birthday party, but Bella, Julianna's big sister, wasn't feeling well either. Plan #2 down. But as Kacy had a "bug in her tummy" of her own a few weeks ago, she was very understanding. We made do with lunch at the diner with Liz and Kenny Romaniello, where Kacy was of course her entertaining self.
Saturday afternoon, the rains came. They'd been calling for several inches of rain, so we were prepared for that. But the winds (hurricane category 1 force at times) were not quite as expected. Ranging in the 50-60 mph range...it knocked over trees, and decimated the electrical power structure in Stamford and elsewhere in the region.
However, mom and Kacy ventured out at dinnertime to keep our date with Courtney, Kristin and Liz at Hope Street pizza (they still had power--yeah!) The drive over was quite an experience...
Liz was the only person we knew with power so guess where Kacy and mom shacked up Saturday night? They managed to keep their power through the storm (which raged till about 10 or 11) and through the night...only to lose it yesterday morning.
Driving around Stamford yesterday was pretty much an adventure. Driving under downed trees, around downed wires and huge branches...If only we'd had a dashboard camera during the ride!!
The reason that started this whole adventure, our friends Alessandra and Mike Cataldo's son's Luca's baptism, had to be postponed due to the power outage. Strike 3 for our plans.
We made it to Westchester County last night, as planned, to celebrate Sydney Tiedt's 15th birthday with her at Tia's house. The Tiedts were one of the few it seemed in their area to have power.
We made our final leg of the journey home this morning...And saw many utility trucks heading north on I-95 in Maryland and along the NJ Turnpike. Here's hoping day 3 of no power for our friends up north doesn't stretch much longer!
That being said...not many pics this weekend. But we had a good time, cancelled plans and all!
